Social Media in Libraries is important because Libraries need to be able to reach the masses and the masses use social networking, the most popular sites being YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc.

Libraries can then advertise on these sites events, books that are available to loan such and e-books also.

Social Networking is also important for libraries so they can promote the library industry and attract possible job seekers/employers, Social Media also allows librarians to contact each other and/or members of the library outside the workers.

Social Media also allows Librarians and staff to keep up to date with the newest news and trends so that they can accommodate the specific interests in their library collection.
